    Appointed Correction Commissioner Stanley Richards

    Mayor Mamdani appointed Stanley Richards as Commissioner of the NYC Department of Correction, making him the first formerly incarcerated person to lead the agency. Richards previously served as first deputy commissioner of DOC and as executive vice president of The Fortune Society. His priorities include improving safety, closing Rikers Island, and ensuring proper care for those in custody.

    Appointed Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin

    Mayor Mamdani appointed Dr. Alister Martin as Commissioner of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Martin is an emergency room physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and assistant professor at Harvard Medical School who previously served as an advisor to former Vice President Kamala Harris.

    Appointed Commissioners for Veterans' Services, Youth and Community Development, and OATH

    Mayor Mamdani appointed Yesenia Mata as Commissioner of the Department of Veterans' Services, making her the first Latina to serve in the role. Sandra Escamilla-Davies was appointed Commissioner of the Department of Youth and Community Development, and Vilda Vera Mayuga was appointed Commissioner of the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.
